Ithaka "SO GET UP" Remixes

Songs using the iconic 1992 vocal-poem acapella "So Get Up" by Greek-Californian songwriter/vocalist Ithaka (or Ithaka Darin Pappas, (sometimes known as Korvorowng or Korvorão...which is frequently misspelled as Korvowrong or Korvowong).

More than one-thousand remixes mostly uncredited (and also said to be unauthorized and unpaid) have reportedly been made of the hip-hop/spoken-word poet's early song "So Get Up". It is considered the most remixed vocal acapella in musical history.

Ithaka originally wrote and recorded "So Get Up" for a small program called Quatro Bairro on Rádio Comercial (Lisbon) on December 13th 1992. It was recited live on-air just minutes after being written (written at a cafe near the radio station). *Note: Ithaka Darin Pappas lived and recorded in Portugal from 1992-1998

Ithaka recorded "So Get Up" a second time in February of 1993 in Manchester, England as a downtempo electronic song for his album, "So Get Up & The Lost Acapellas". At that time, a demo-single promo of the Manchester version of So Get Up (as "So Get Up 1993") was released, but the album was only made public in 2017. When it was eventually released, the full album "So Get Up & The Lost Acapellas" (Sweatlodge Records) included twelve other spoken-vocal songs made by the artist during the same 1993 recording sessions in Manchester.

In 1994, Ithaka recorded a third version of So Get Up as a 'guest performer' for the B-side of a 12" white-label demo with Underground Sound of Lisbon (DJ Vibe/Rui da Silva).

What began as a 'demo' was soon distributed internationally by Kaos Records and Tribal America Records without the authorization of (or apparently payment to) the lyricist/vocalist.

Furthermore, as a marketing strategy to retain its exotic flavor abroad, Kaos Records-Portugal and Tribal America-E.M.I. presented Underground Sound Of Lisbon‘s "So Get Up" remix as a 100% Portuguese song (ie: even packaging the release in the colors of the Portuguese flag, etc.) even though the creator of the song’s organic and identifying elements (lyrics/vocals) was actually from Los Angeles - and were recorded in English with an American accent.

Not even a FEATURING ITHAKA credit was listed on the releases, discarding the fact that it was undoubtfully Ithaka Darin Pappas' own (preexisting) song from a full year before the first Underground Sound Of Lisbon remix was released.

Two uncredited acapellas were included on the Tribal America vinyl release of So Get Up, a record that (along with So Get Up remixes by New York superstar deejays Junior Vasquez and Danny Tenaglia) sold more that 80,000 copies - two million copies total, including compilations.

For this reason, the majority of bootleg versions of So Get Up around the world stem from these acapella vocals released with U.S.L's remixed versions of the song.

"So Get Up" in different forms has charted several times during its history; with Underground Sound of Lisbon (#83 on the UK pop charts) with Stretch n Vern's "Get Up! Go Insane! remix (#17 on the UK pop charts), while the Spanish duo Committe charted at #3 on the Billboard Single Charts in Spain with their retitled version, "Trance Line". The Trance Line Remix (which used all of Ithaka’s vocal and none of Underground Sound of Lisbon’s music) remained in the Top Ten for more than a month in the winter of 1995.

More recently, in 2013-until present, Cosmic Gate has had much success using Ithaka's same (uncredited) vocal acapella for their song "So Get Up" for their album, Wake Your Mind. Their version of the song has been played extensively during their numerous world tours. And several remixes of Cosmic Gate’s “So Get Up” remix have subsequently been released by Wake Your Mind/Armada records (Armin Van Buuren).

Remixes of So Get Up have been created in almost every conceivable sub-genre of electronic music: ambient, dub, hip hop, kraut rock, neo soul, new-age, new wave, noise, post disco, post punk, psychedelic, chip tune, drum and bass, EDM, electro, electro acoustic, electronica, glitch house, IDM, synth-pop, industrial, jungle, techno, trance electronic rock, electronicore, electro pop, electro punk, indie electronic, nu jazz, electro swing, trip hop, tech house, pyschtrance, hardstyle, gabber, etc.

It is generally thought that So Get Up and its innumerable remix variations have sold more than 30,000,000 copies worldwide - including compilations and downloads.
