- Edited 3 years agoNot as good as I hoped it would be, as were my sentiments with "Hell Hath ...". The Clipse here are long-winded and obtuse , even though the runtime is short for an LP. I had to take a break halfway through the mix. And believe me I van remember seeing this album when I just got into high school, feigning to lift it right out of Target. Expected a darker sound, but shame on me, on a Star Trak LP to expect that. The best tracks (the double- header of "All Eyes On Me" & "Counseling") sounded like they were lifted right out some N.E.R.D. sessions. But when Cam'ron has the most refreshing bars on any album ( due to that emcee's simple style and often annoying cadence) , that's a problem. Tnis just felt like one failed attempt at a pop hit after another, becauee the subject matter of growth and regret , down to the morbidity of the cover art - just did not fit the overly-joyful instrumental aesthetic. A case of the wrong batch of beats.
- Underrated final shot from the kingpins of Virginia coke-rap. Rich and full soundstage on this pressing, giving a liveliness to the energetic performances contained within.
