- While Fixed is quality loopy tool-ey techno in the typical motor skills Mick Harris fashion, it’s the A side, Report, which is arguably the finest piece he’s ever come up with, and published under this moniker. For reference only, it also to this day remains one of my top ten techno tracks of the nineties.
It sounds like medieval church organ keys and stabs have been mixed with shrapnel and then pulled through a gigantic shredder machine.
Perfectly modulated organic passage emitted from the side ejection port, discordant notes harmoniously going up and down a bar or two, over a tremendous beat, four to full on four blasting madness.
This is an exemplary case of the mid nineties precision minimal UK sound. Monotonous, captivating, dry and condensed, scarce in sounds and layers applied, yet extremely endowed in the execution department, and tongue in cheek enforcement. No presumptuous geekiness and futile preponderance here, just incompressible techno fury for the head strong. Demagogy of the obscurants level is maximal, as this is a tough one to track down and acquire. Well worth the effort though.
