Reviews
- I am a huge Janet Jackson fan who collects her discography and random bits of memorabilia and merchandise that surfaced throughout her career, so when I saw that this album got a deluxe reissue, I knew I had to get it because this is my favorite Janet Jackson album! I'm going to first review the overall album since most spectators want to know another buyer's opinion on that over than the opinion on how the reissue should've been released lol. In my opinion, the sound quality of the songs, especially the new tracks are good and listenable. It was a nice touch that the three B-Sides as well as the "You Want This" rap remix featuring MC Lyte was included since they are not easily obtainable to listen to online aside from Youtube. The additional photos are also a nice touch but I personally would've liked to see some more photos that were taken for the album that didn't weren't released or photos that were taken throughout the eras such as music video outtakes and stills, interview appearances, and concert photos.
Now, I wish that Janet's team promoted this anniversary more than a few social media posts. I do agree with the other reviewers that the track list is lackluster and should've been something much more than what the final product is. So, I took it upon myself to come up with what I personally feel like would've been great for this deluxe edition:
And On and On, 70’s Love Groove, One More Chance, Any Time, Any Place (R. Kelly Remix) (or the Jam & Lewis Remix), You Want This Remix (W/ MC Late), That’s the Way Love Goes (CJ FXTC Club Mix 12”), If (Brothers Rhythm House Mix), Because of Love (Frankie & David Classic 12” Version), Any Time, Any Place (D&D House Mix), Throb (David Morales Legendary Club Mix), You Want This (E-Smoove’s House Anthem), What’ll I Do (Dave Navarro Remix).
Despite the additional songs that we were given, I am just happy to purchase something from Janet, Miss Jackson! :) - Edited 7 months agoAgree with others. I’m a huge Janet Jackson CD collector and remixes fanatic. I didn’t buy this one: Boring Edition, Boring Tracklisting, Boring Ideas!
Cherry Red Records should’ve carry this responsibility instead, as they have proved that they can make AWESOME content for Deluxe Editions. See their effort for Kylie Minogue’s 3 PWL albums: Collector’s Wet Dream Come True lol!!
So please.. back to the drawing board for Janet reissues!! - I'm really disappointed and wonder who at Janet's record label thinks up such nonsense. While "Velvet Rope" was only released as a digital edition with numerous other great remixes last year, "Janet" will be released this year as a special edition with only 7 extra tracks. If only it were unreleased stuff. I have to admit that with a heavy heart I didn't spend a cent on the 2023 edition. This is more of a money maker than an anniversary edition for fans.
- I'm glad they included all the b-sides but they could have included the whole remixed album as a second disc, honestly. I don't know they didn't.
- What a waste of a bonus cd. It's barely 35 minutes in length while there are numerous remixes (promo and commercial) that could have been included. Heck, they didn't even include a bonus mix of "If"
