Lee Morgan – The Gigolo

This would make one the best Tone Poets ever, Blue Note.

I just picked up a VG copy; however, the album feels like it was mastered "Hot," and any noise is drowned out. Has anyone else had this experience?

Does anyone have an extra sleeve in decent condition for sale?

Got my hands on a copy of this one recently, took a chance because they don’t fetch big $. Wow what a pleasant surprise. Instruments come alive with great depth and clarity. Worth the $. 😎

I am always fascinated by the way jazz trumpet and tenor players play together. On this record, Lee Morgan work this magic so well. Unity on all the articulations is awesome - they make it sound easy through an assortment of tunes that also make for a lovely set. Bassist Bob Crenshaw and drummer Billy Higgins are similarly wired together. I don't have the original pressing for comparison, but this is an excellent mix. Sometimes on a reissue the percussion sounds have a few sketchy moments - does not seem to be the case here.

I have places to go and listening to this record is interfering with my departure. It's that kind of album.

Another Blue Note gem, Lee Morgan rarely disappoints. Lively, upbeat session with powerful playing from all members. Def worthy of a spot in any jazz fans’ collection.

Not as good of audio quality as the stereo release. Subdued, not as dynamic, poorer mix.

Fantastic album. The title track is amazing, but for me, this rendition of "You Go To My Head" is the high point of this set. Amazing work by Harold Mabern (underrated!) and the same lyrical sax lines you're used to from mr. Shorter. Essential!
