- Absolutely amazing work. We were listening to it in the early 2000s in Syberia in my native city Omsk. Computer games, PC, school. We had no any idea what the hell was that music, but we knew exactly - this is a soundtrack of a young generation, raising from the late 90s. Now im 34 and i take the responsibility for the statement - it is impossible to repeat such kind of sound. Breakbeat full of soul. WHat an exclusion! Thanks men, u made an influence .
- Edited one year agoBomfunk MC's. The band's name itself is one of the coolest ever created in my opinion.
Many people only heard "Freestyler" but never went further, even in the "In Stereo" LP, even though a bunch of other tunes such as "Uprocking Beats" were also a bit popular outside Scandinavia, notably the UK. They don't know what they are missing.
What I really like about this band is their simplicity. There's no complex sound layers as, let's say, The Future Sound of London, and their lyrics aren't that much sophisticated either. But I don't care. Their sound is inviting, fun, filled with soul.
It takes me back to a time when I had nothing to care about apart from my homework and the upcoming math test.
Now, "Burnin' Sneakers" is definitely a change to "In Stereo", even if it may not be noticeable at first. From the dark sounding PlayStation soundtrack, DJ Gismo and B.O. Dubb put out a more danceable and accessible product, more suited for sunny open air than the underground tube.
If someone's looking for choons that have the "hit" format, "Something Going On" and "Put Ya Hands Uo" are probably the best choices. The former has a serious nostalgic intro and features the beautiful voice of Jessica Folcker, whereas the latter is simply a dancefloor igniter.
My favorite track is "Throw 1 Back At Cha", with its atmospheric breaks that is a sollicitation to chill out. "Freak It On" has similar soothful samples, although the beats mean business.
You can also feel some "In Stereo" vibes with "We R Atomic".
"Burnin' Sneakers"... both the title and the music are a perfect companion to your rhythm for running outside.
Even if it sounds a bit different than their previous release, the touch of DJ Gismo is recognizable amongst hundreds, so you can pick it up if you haven't yet, with the guarantee of having another good time after "In Stereo".
Yes, dear FInnish people, you are not alone. There are still persons outside of Scandinavia that continue to jam on Bomfunk MC's after all these years.
