Sly & The Family Stone – Back On The Right Track

Well, I did say that this was going to be difficult for me to do, but I commit it to review...

After years of battling addiction to Drugs, and releasing sub par albums, "Epic Records" tried to hang in there, but eventually had to drop him from the Label....It seemed like there was no one willing to deal with him, but "Warner Bros." (the best record company at the time) was willing to give it a shot...

With "Back On The Right Track", some of the members of the "Family Stone" came back on board like: "Freddie", Rose", "Cynthia", "Joseph Baker", "Pat Rizzo", along with new members, "Keni Burke" (Keyboards), "Alvin Taylor' (Drums), "Walter Downing" (Keyboards), Horns by "Fred Smith" and "Gary Herbig", Vocalist "Lisa Banks", and some producing help from "Mark Davis" and "Hamp Banks" (Rose's husband).....

Honestly though, even with the nice "Title Track", "Remember Who You Are" and "Sheer Energy", the album just feels kind of flat...

This is not pleasant for me to say, because anyone who knows me, knows how I feel about "Sly"...He is one of my biggest musical influences...But like I said on the last album, "Sly's" best musical days were behind him...

Well, there is one more to review....

Not their finest moment but it does feel like Sly and the team by numbers - not such a bad thing but they have done better, their own high standards beat this release.

Pleasant experience upon playing this Lp for the first time. Seemingly the recipient of poor reviews, these tracks actually stack up really well. This clearly shows the Sly Stone phenom: as even his sub-par performances are still literally on another level compared to his peers.
