Sounds fantastic, beautiful clean clear voice, and cool beats.
Great artist.referencing Long Way Home (LP, Album) XLLP754
Noisy pressing, right channel has strange zipping noise in locations, start of track/s. Shame, great album.- If anyone has a copy of the obi/cocktail recipe board that came with this record that wouldnt mind parting with, please contact me.
- A little bit of surface noise with a 2M. Didn't mind it much, the mastering sounds great. Love the music. Good stuff.
- And to think that I almost switched this out for one of the archived releases... One of the great benefits of a record club like VMP is that it's constantly exposing me to new artists, new sounds, new genres. I would never have picked this up on my own in a million years, but now that I own Lapsley's debut I think the VMP folks made a wise choice.
For context, I have vey eclectic music tastes. My record collection has everything from extreme metal to 80s new wave to hip hop. With that said, pop is typically not on my radar. To my ears, Lapsley's album is a beautiful collection of dream pop songs with some r&b influences. I can also hear some of the gothy production touches you might hear on a Chelsea Wolfe album. It's a perfect late night listen with a glass of scotch. The lyrical content is NOT typical fair that you could expect from an artist like Taylor Swift. There's a melancholic refinement to it that's rewarding if you give the album a chance.
I can understand why some people were upset with this choice. It's easy to dismiss this as teenage trash because of the age of the artist. Exposure to new styles is exactly why I joined. If I get a release I don't like, I sell it and move on. VMP, if you're listening, please don't change a thing about how you choose your artists. If I wanted something safe, I'd go to Goodwill and buy a Chicago record. - Truly an amazing record from a great young and talented female artist. Beautiful voice, great production and interesting technique. Thoroughly enjoy this one - great pick VMP!
- This is the first time I have been upset after listening to the VMP record of the month in 9 months of being a member. I have loved almost everything I have gotten so far (and liked what I didn't love), so I'm definitely sticking with the subscription, but this one made me question it. Also they left out my artwork this month, which judging by the picture was pretty cool. :(
Good sounding pressing, but this is just not what I would call good music at all. I'm actually surprised I listened to this whole thing; I wanted to give it a chance. Some of the production is solid and catchy, and her voice is pretty, but overall it comes across as what it is: a 19 year old girl moaning about her feelings. Lot of melancholy tracks, but it's the upbeat poppy ones that really got to me and made me want to cut the record off short. Incredibly cloying at times. I could rip into this album more, but she's an easy target, so I'll stop. Like I said, this just really isn't my type of music at all, and I know this one wasn't meant for me. Hopefully this made everyone else in the club happy.
I would like to see VMP stick to more classic established albums that are not available for reasonable prices or are in dire need of a quality repress/first press for the record of the month itself. The survey they sent out last year had so many good options on it that I voted for, and I haven't seen any of those yet. To force brand new pop albums like this on everyone is going to upset people (like me in this instance, and I know Torres and Blessed Feathers irked a lot of people) and lose them memberships. This would have been perfect for a member store exclusive or curated add on.
You did SO GOOD last month... get back on track guys! - Anyone getting surface noise on this pressing? Detecting some surface noise with and without headphones. I may give it a more thorough cleaning to be sure, beyond the usual carbon brush.
- My copy came with a test pressing of two tracks from the album... one on A side and the other on B side. Anyone else get one?
