To make this album, Hector Zazou first went to record traditional indigenous songs from Siberia, Japan, Greenland, Canada, Norway, Sweden and Finland. He then returned to the studio to produce songs with a bunch of female singers who have an affinity with this kind of sound universe. The result is a record which is opaque in places but filled with an astonishing palette of textures.

One of the highlights is the second track with Björk's voice alternating with a superb clarinet. Something both divine and tragic emanates from this sweet and sad piece. In the third, The Long Journey, we find the voices of Suzanne Vega and John Cale on lyrics inspired by a poem by Oscar Wilde. It is a warm and bright song on the theme of travel. The darkest moment is the lighthouse. Siouxsie Sioux recites an excerpt from a sinister poem by Wilfred Wilson Gibson with shamanic throaty incantations in the background. The rest of the record is filled with atmospheres that evoke different aspects of the North Seas with a bunch of singers including Jane Sibery and a myriad of others with often unpronounceable names. Soft and cold like the sea but with something warming in spite of everything, like when the water shimmers and sends the reflection of the sun in our eyes.
