Reviews
- Yet another Enid single which failed to make any kind of impact on the radio; PYE were thrilled.
The A side was a studio recording which featured their well-known encore song, but there were issues when it came to releasing it as Boosey & Hawkes - who owned the rights to "The Dambusters March" - refused to give PYE permission so they simply went ahead and did it anyway. It's a rousing tune (and hence the RAF blue/white/red roundel on the picture disc) especially when coupled with "Land of Hope and Glory". I recall that at the gigs a rolled-up blanket songsheet was displayed for the encore and the audience were encouraged to join in, which we always did! There are live versions of this tune available on other Enid albums, by the way...
The B-side is another non-album track, "The Skyeboat Song" which takes the old traditional tune and puts it to a synthesiser/orchestral setting. I have to admit that it's very good.
You can find this - and all the other singles and their B sides - on the Enid double album "Anarchy on 45".
