ABC – How To Be A Zillionaire!

In reference to variant 2. An off the rails masterpiece that sounds fantastic. This can be wound way up... bonus tracks are there to sell a format once upon a time.

My favorite ABC album. The songs are all top quality a and the performance and production are TIGHT! The 2005 remastered CD packs a real punch and just sounds sublime. I rarely put this on without listening to it in it's entirety.

I've encountered something curious and wondering if someone can shed some light: I've been replacing my old vinyl, and recently bought a UK gatefold copy of this and then a sealed U.S. version on eBay; turns out the latter is a 72 - PRC, Richmond copy, and when playing it I was shocked to find that Eden's part on "A to Z" is edited/censored! She just says "Hi, I'm Eden" and then it returns to the music. My original U.S. copy, which I'm sure I bought in 1985, was not edited, and of course nor is the UK version I have. Does anyone know which U.S. pressings were edited and which were not?

This CD remastered reissue from 2015 (excellent sound) contains a wonderful slow version of how to be a millionnaire (n°11 the Harajuku mix) for the first time on CD.

Why is the country U.S.? No mention of US on CD or Booklet/Inlay.

Super fun album of silliness! A perfect 80's timecapsule!

As nice as the deluxe editions are of the ABC catalogue, they are missing quite a lot of content, such as the extended versions of Tears Are Not Enough, The Look Of Love and Be Near Me to note. Why do this? Why not make a deluxe edition of an album with ALL remixes!?

I don't think this is remastered at all. Same levels as 1985 pressing.

This Abc record is full of synth flavor. Lots new york electro breakbeat drum machines, (keith LeBlanc provided some nice beats), twinkly sounding keyboards, and artificial moods of all sorts. The tone throughout is fun and bright. Abc really nailed their lexicon of love sound but I think this one might be their best album. Also be sure to check out the abc b sides and remixes from the mid to late 80s.

At the same time adorable and silly, this album relies on heavy drum-boxing, Art-of-Noise-esque Fairlight sampling and cartoonish fooling around (most evident in the album's cover line about "Mickey Mouse being bigger than Elvis ever was"). Their sense of feel-good melody (evident in the album's principle hits - the title song plus "Vanity Kills" and "Be Near Me") and amazing drum-programming courtesy On-U-Sound's Keith LeBlanc make this album worth its subversive 4 stars.

Commercially speaking however, it's a cartoon fantasy many didn't get.
