The "Sam Dogg" credited with co-writing the title track is Doug Sahm (who had used a slight variation on the pseudonym previously); the song is basically Sahm's 1969 tune "Texas Me" with different lyrics.

Reviews
A far cry from the alt-country sounds of Lone Justice. Maria's blue eyed soul voice comes shining through like a fog light on a clear night. The opening number is a killer track with all the pop sensibility and craftmanship of a Prince song. Other songs that stand out are the oh-so harmonious 'My Girlhood Among The Outlaws' and the soul-fueled power ballad 'I Forgive You' showcasing her undeniable range. In a day where beauty overshadows talent and an A&R department is measured by the units they move as opposed to the talent they put on a stage, Maria McKee is a beacon of hope offering grace, beauty, talent and so much more. A real treat for those who love real music!!
