- Edited 9 months agoExcellent CHIC retrospect, but as others have noted, the mastering on this was a bit heavy handed, and lots of great tracks are not here....Norma Jean's "Sorcerer" being one of them.
However, both 1982 Fonzi Thornton tracks are fantastic, and very welcome. (A shame a full album was not realized)
Also not included anywhere else is "Just Call Me" from the 1983 "Believer" sessions.
And agreed, the original version of "I want your Love" should have been included, as it's the only Dimitri remix that missed the mark IMO--His work on Norma's "Saturday" & Sister Sledge's "Thinking of you" is fantastic.
Be sure to check out Dimitri's dedicated CHIC remix cd/vinyl. - Edited 9 years agoCrying a track is included or not does not help because the mastering of the CD is so bad. Bad EQ, less dynamic (most DR values between 8 and 10 partially 11). Disco tracks must have at least a dynamic range value DR 14. Sorry, no box to collect (again).
- Edited 8 years agoNot perfect, but a very nice box set deluxe CD package for true Chic lovers/collectors out there. Buy it for the rare 12"/long versions and outtakes, but most importantly, for the unreleased tracks from Fonzi Thorton and Johnny Mathis. While it would be nice to have the full albums by Fonzi and Johnny issued on CD, but for now, this is better than zero - one wonders how Mathis' career trajectory might have changed forever had CBS had the balls to release his full Chic-helmed "I Love My Lady" 1981 CD - about the LP title, talk about irony? When Johnny holds that note for nearly 30 seconds (!) on "I Want to Fall in Love," it's heart-stopping. Nearly all the classic Chic singles and artist productions are here - save for puzzling omissions like my personal Norma Jean fave, "I Like Love" - but I own the OOP Sequel UK CD of her solo LP plus bonus tracks, so...ok by me.
