Sounds great! This is my first One Step, and if this is the “worst sounding” one, then I’m prepared to have my mind blown when I’ll hear the other ones! The sound is crisp, clear, great separation, the harmonies sound absolutely beautiful, and the vinyl is dead quiet. Love it!

I read comments about how the album wasn’t well recorded when it actually was. However, if you were to tell me that a remix would improve it, I would agree with you. The production itself is a victim of the times. The following album, déjà vu, sounded better, and more balanced to my ears. However, on this edition, the guitars sound splendid to me. The vocals are a bit too out front and the drums are a bit too muffled. C’est la vie. This is probably the definitive iteration right here. I like records that tell the truth on themselves and I know not everybody else does. When I listened to the Beatles Mono box, I was fascinated with all the edits I was hearing. Loved it! Not everybody does though. This is a fine edition.

Loving my copy. The vinyl is BLACK quiet after an ultrasonic clean. In headphones it is silent in between tracks. The soundstage, bass and separation on this is mind blowing crystal clear while still being as warm as a blanket . I thought the recent Chris Bellman cut was quiet and sounded good. This is next level!

I think this sounds awesome. Not sure what anyone would’ve expected, the production on this album has always sounded seriously odd in places and definitely not consistent. I’ve owned plenty of originals, the BG reissue from rhino and now this and it’s no contest this sounds the best. The vocals have always been too loud and bright in some songs and the drums and guitars way too low on others. Of all the albums that would benefit from a remix, this is definitely one of them but as far as a presentation of the original mix goes I don’t think it’ll get better.

After reading the mixed reviews i thought i may have wasted my money. played expecting the worst but quite happy overall. Instrumentation is great, over all sound is great. Yes some of the vocals border on harshness, the worst being wooden ships. Maybe the better your rig is the more it reveals the defects in the vocals?
This is much better than some of the lifeless 1/2 speed masters from Abbey Road.
Also at the price i am guessing people are expecting perfection.

You do not need this MOFI release. I think the master recordings itself were not that good. You can hear what MOFI tried to do. They should’ve canceled the project when they heard the masters. Now it’s only causing them (extra) bad publicity.
I compared it to an original GB pressing played on Rega P2, ortofon bronze.

After listening a few more times I think this One step is a bust, which is disappointing because of how much I love this album. The vocals in this just seem bright and harsh in some songs. Some songs sound great like you don’t have to cry, and lady of the island. These have great clarity and separation of instruments. However others like suite Judy blue eye and wooden ships sound harsh and fatiguing. Which is surprising because my system tends to sound warm. I did a blind shootout of suite Judy blue eyes for my fiancée with another pressing I got at a thrift store. Part of me was curious if she would even hear a difference. However, after listening she immediately pointed out the Mofi and thought it sounded terrible for similar reasons. She told me she never wants to hear this pressing again which was a stronger reaction that even I had. So I guess this is my last one step. I am really surprised by some of these positive reviews I have seen. Based on my system and ears, I couldn’t recommend this.

The Nautilus copy beat the One Step. I have been an advocate of Mofi even through the scandal and highly rate most of the One Steps because I let my ears be the judge. But....just way too much bass on this one and the vocals stand out better on the Nautilus. The One Step sounds better on headphones than thru my speakers and I have a decently priced system around 10K. However the Nautilus beats the One Step thru speakers AND headphones. I only needed one listening to draw that conclusion. If you can find a Nautilus copy at or around the median price of $65 I'd advise you to pick it up.

IMHO, the CSN MOFI One Step sounds very good so far.
Standout tracks: Guinnevere, Long Time Gone, and 49 Bye-Byes.

The original CSN album wasn’t well recorded, so I hoped that the One Step would bring out the instruments more. The One Step does that on a few of the tracks, but I have this uneasy feeling that this is more of a remix than a remaster. I don’t know what master MOFI copied for their DSD step, they don’t provide that information.

On the original US 1969 original pressing, the first 2 songs: Suite Judy Blue Eyes and Marrakesh Express have a better vocal mix. These 2 songs sound vocally underwhelming on the One Step as if a blanket was on top of the vocal mix.

If you’re into MOFI, then I don’t want to deter you from buying this One Step; because the vocals sound immaculate throughout and the Stills/Dallas Taylor rhythm section start cooking on Side 4

If anyone is able to compare this to the Classic Records release, please post your findings here. I am wondering if I need the MOFI if I already have the 33rpm Grundman Classic Records pressing?
