- It is a shame that Tal lost most of his technical guitar skills before his comeback, because the ideas and the creativity are there in full, but he has a hard time to realise them on the fretboard. Why did he never take care of this? Did nobody mention, or did he not listen? this is a shame because from what he "tries" to play this record is very interesting and very modern. He was something else, his old records are killer, this on is for guitar players and die hard fans.
- Edited 10 months agoI've always been a fan of Tal, and this is a really nice trio session from a couple years after his auspicious return to music. If you are new to TF, go back to 1957, "The Swingin' Guitar Of Tal Farlow", and knock yourself out.
Musically, his pickstyle chord melody work is stunning. He lacks the precision of his late '50s heyday, but he makes up for that with some adventurous improvisation.
Recording is outstanding. Guitar is front and center and dry, just perfect for a jazz trio recording of this era.
Great pressing, super clean copy. Four stars. Recommended.
