Notes
Miles Davis's twenty-seventh full-length studio album released on March 30, 1970 on Columbia Records. It marked his continuing experimentation with electric instruments that he had featured on his previous record, the critically acclaimed In A Silent Way (1969). With these instruments, such as the electric piano and guitar, Davis departed from traditional jazz rhythms in favor of loose, rock-influenced arrangements based on improvisation.

- Available for retail on Music Direct!! Just picked up my copy. https://www.musicdirect.com/music/vinyl/miles-davis-bitches-brew-numbered-vinyl-2lp/
- This pressing is so much better than the MoFi I do not understand all the praise it gets up against a UK 1st.
- Edited 12 days agoI have to admit, that this is an excellent release. At first I thought that there is something wrong with the sonics (especially taking into consideration previous comments). They are a bit fuzzy and unclear. But then I switched to the Qobuz version and was very surprised - there were no sonics at all compared to this LP version. So I think that the initial record has this kind of sonics initially.
Otherwise the sound is decent. One funny thing related to the quadrophonic nature of the release - in the middle of Bitches Brew there is a moment when the sound prowls between channels, and you can feel, that there is something missing in your setup (the sound breaks off too abruptly).
Great packaging with thick gatefold cardboard. Flawless quality of vinyl - traditionally for the Japanese releases (the surface is dead quiet). - Wow! Now I know what all the hype is about, first time listen for me @65yrs. Truly amazing , nice pressing, 180g 99.8 % flat, nice quiet between tracks. Looking to listen to over again and again with colour organ in room

Awesome DEEP rich sound... get lost in this Masterpiece.. splitter vinyl looks amazing too- Edited 28 days agofantastic sounding version, possibly the best on CD, hard to pick between this and what i’ve heard from the MFSL SACD. both have the original LP mix
- Played this one on my 5.1 speakers a few nights back. Turned off all the lights and just listened to it. The differences between the quadraphonic and stereo mixes are very noticeable in the first disc (Contains "Pharaoh's Dance" and "Bitches Brew") with the use of delays. The big difference is that quadraphonics, while obviously having the ability to sound more spacious than stereo, also isolate the instruments onto their own separate channels. So one ear, I could hear the Congo drums going crazy and on the other side hear some crazy electric piano solos.
Admittedly, when I first heard the quad mix, I was a bit repulsed by it. Much like how many jazz fans were repulsed by the original album, this quadraphonic mix is even more weirder and unusual. But after some warming up, the quad mix really becomes the only way to listen to this album. My favorite part of this entire album is the beat change at the 8:30 mark on "Pharaoh's Dance." Miles Davis and his legendary trumpet basically went from 2D on stereo to 4D in quad. Shit like this just really opens your mind up.
This is my all time favorite jazz album and definitely one of my prized releases in my small collection. I wish more people would listen to the quadraphonic mix. - Picked up a used NM+ pressing from the first run back in 2015 (I can tell by the advertisements enveloping the records). #5135.
Miles (haha) better than the 2016 Sony Legacy Vinyl which i had for a couple of years. That Sony Legacy version was reasonably good but a bit edgy.
This Mo-Fi is way more musical. Miles horn just soars. The detail, timber, attack/decay and shimmer of the instruments is incredible with no hardness at all.
