VINYL
My records have been stored vertically, in plastic sleeves, over the years. Those I acquired new are in generally great
condition; those I bought used vary. I don't rate any vinyl/sleeve higher than VG+, even though a lot of them look (and sound) almost new.
I've tried to 'play' grade when possible, especially the more valuable albums. The audit usually involves playing each side's lead track (and others if
they look questionable). Visual grading was done under a fairly harsh light. I note cutout marks, but do NOT include them in the sleeve grade (as per Discog's 'How To Grade Items' description for VG+ records). When describing surface noise for VG+ vinyl, I try to quantify at 3 levels:
- 'Almost no' surface noise - really a NM record
- 'Minimal' surface noise - may hear a couple of instances of short noise, usually at the beginning of a side, but not much overall
- 'Very little' surface noise - maybe a few more seconds of noise than 'Minimal', but still VG+
This is a pretty subjective process, but I've tried to be pretty discriminating about rating. If a record has more than 'very little' surface
noise, it will be rated VG or lower. NOTE: NONE of these records have been 'professionally' cleaned - I'm assuming that such a cleaning
could only improve on the record's quality.
CDs:
I do NOT include jewel case condition in CD grading unless it is a Digipak release. I've tried
to mention obvious defects in cases, like bad hinges or spindle teeth. I only grade items as (M)int if
they are sealed; many CDs look mint, but I still grade them as NM. If a sleeve has any holes drilled or
barcodes marked through (such as for cutouts or promos), I rate them at least one grade lower than
they look (so NM sleeves become VG+).
Listed price does not include shipping or tax.
